My Room is actually facing the east, so I try my luck for a sunrise shot, unfortunately the sky is cloudy. So I get back to sleep again.
Poppy and his wife run this hotel business here, most fo the time his wife is doing the admin job, and poppy doing pick up for guess, they are really kind and friendly. Before we rent a bike, we book a ticket for tomorrow volcano trip, need to book a day ahead. After that a guy pick us up to the shop “Moto Center” and choose for a bike. At first we choose a Quads/ATV, feel that got 4 wheel is more save and also got more space to put our bag, but is really hard to control, we almost crash to the tree, I saw few couple almost have an accident also. so in the end we choose a scooter which we can handle the best.
Today we gonna explore the southern part, try to cover every places in a day. Our first stop is Megalochori. Megalohori sits on a hill facing to the east of Santoriniand as you approach its centre you will find the roads becoming thinner and a number of pretty alleyways. This place is one of the most peaceful and traditional villages of Santorini, located about nine kilometers from Fira. The churches of Aghi Anargyri, Isodia tis Theotokou and Aghios Nikolaos Marmaritis on the road to Emborio are worth seeing.

During the grape harvest, Megalochori becomes a totally different place. Grapes are spread out on the terraces of the houses to be made into visanto or raisins, heavily laden baskets are carried back and forth, and in general the place is caught up in the frenzy of wine-making. Three of the island’s wineries are located in Megalochori – Boutaris, Antoniou and Iliopoulos. You can’t fail to notice the large number of wine tasting places here and indeed this village is at the heart of the island’s industry.

We stopped by the bread shop outside to buy us some bread for lunch, this was a classic shop with an underground basement. Annie go the buying I settle the payment.
The next visit will be the Red Beach, before we reach red beach we pass by the Akrotini town, this is the most important archaeological site of Santorini. Akrotiri was a Minoan settlement in Santorini with two and three-storey buildings and many beautiful frescos, we didn’t make a stop here as you know I don’t really interested in History
Red beach in the Akrotiri area. Beautiful beach, well known for the unique colour of the sand and the hill behind it. Soaring red lava cliffs which drop right to the sandy shore and into the clear blue sea, make for a majestic setting and one to enjoy. The beach can be reached either by boat (there are several connecting Red Beach with Perissa and Akrotiri or by foot (10 minutes walk from Akrotiri, you have to reach Agios Nikolaos church in Akrotiri next to the excavations area). we sit on the red sand and have our lunch there, because you need to pay 5 euro to take the chair.

Faros actually was in out schedule too, but because of the bad weather, we are lazy to travel towards the very end of south west Santorini, we took a pee in the middle of the road and we went to Perissa with our rain coat on.
Perissa is one of Santorini best beaches. Next to Emporio village a long dark sand endless beach.
A feature that makes Perissa unique (besides the crystal water and the smooth sand) is the fact that is the best protected beach from the summer Aegean winds (called “Meltemia” in Greek). Perissa lies right next to Profitis Ilias mountain, totally protected from the North. We just stop by and took some photo because we plan to swim in Kamari beach. Due to the bad weather we can see was empty along the beach.

We rush back to our hotel because of the heavy rain, so we have to reschedule and to give up going to Kamari, cause no point to go to a beach when it is raining. We wanted to buy something to cook for our lunch, but we forgotten today is actually sunday most of the shops are close, even carrefour also close on sunday, luckily we still can find a shop on the main road.
After the rain stopped, we can finally go to Fira, I’m quite disappointed with what I saw in Fira, in my imagination is a very nice and beautiful place, but after seeing this I find that mykonos actually is nicer than here. We were surprise to meet Andrew here, he is a Polish, we travel around Greece with his bicycle, I really respect him on this. Actually I met him before in the Kalambaka Train station, we took the same train to Athens. He still using a film camera, and we both are Nikonmania.

He even took us to Ag. Theodori church in Firostefani, without him I really don’t know how to get here. He even help us to take a couple photos. Most of the people come here to see the sunset of Santorini, but today we don’t have any chance at all, hope tomorrow we will have a sunny day. I leave Andrew a name card before I go, I hope he can write and share his photos with me when he go back to his country.
