After some good sleep, I manage to wake up with my refreshing mind but is a little bit late today…… 5am, because I know there was no way I can get a sunrise shot in a valley. Despite that I still want to have my own photography session alone. First I went for a shoot near to the coast, the twilight splash the sky in dramatic red. This should be my best landscape shot in the journey so far and I believe the weather is even better today.
Later I hike up the hill and take a full panorama shot of the whole town, those idea came from a postcard displayed in the hostel, but that time I think was in spring, so the mountain still full of snow but now I hardly see snow. I didn’t hike up to the point as they were because I promised my wife will be back not later than 7:30am, so the time wasn’t allow.
After our breakfast we went around the little town. Siglufjörður was a fishing town, 1600 inhabitants. Those hills were protected against avalanches by two walls (18 and 14 m high) so is a bit dangerous if travel during the winter. I took annie to the hill side again. The lighting for the panorama shot is nicer because of the sunlight, but you can feel the heat of the sun.
Later we drove around the city and I was attracted by the mirror reflection of the dock while Annie was interested in the Yellow cafe next to the Dock. Unfortunately I broke my CPL filter during my shooting, as I know WA lens shouldn’t attach with the CPL filter, I over strength to loosen it cause me the heavy price on this, I wonder how am I going to shoot without this CPL filter for the rest of my trip………

After a lot of shooting we went back to the hostel to check out and bought some so their local bread before we start another day of our adventure. Good bye to this beautiful Siglufjörður, we will miss u………
Now came the most challenging part……driving out of Siglufjörður….. but is was not as bad as I thought, the journey seem to be more relax than yesterday, and it took us just a while to get out from this roller coastal road but we saw some part of the road closed due to the quakes and landslide. We arrived in Akureyri almost 1pm because we took a few stop along the way like Dalvík and Hauganes.
We made a stop in Akureyri to load up our food, Akureyr so called capital of the North, situated in the narrow fjord Eyjafjörður but we’re not making any stop here. Annie was delight with the Bonus supermarket which she finally see one. After filling up our petrol and have some simple lunch in our car near to the petrol station, we continue our drive again to our very first famous waterfall…….Goðafoss
Goðafoss is a very impressive waterfall on the river Skjálfandafljót but the road is a little bit slippery after the parking area. I was impressed by the view of the waterfall but my shooting was spoil by the sun again, the timing was just not right again, I got back light on this beautiful place again so I decided not to follow Dylan route to go further in 40km inside the Goðafoss cause I afraid the result will be the same again. So I decided to check in to our hostel a little bit early today and took our shower before we went to Husavik. Today weather hitting 24 degree Celsius, we are melting and I think I got a sun burn already.
Berg will be the place we’re staying tonight is about 7KM off the main road, is an old farm house. We were surprise that actually they put us in a double room tonight, which mean for the 3 consecutive nights, we were staying by ourselves. I wish that this will happen for our entire trip……..
I try to stay online a while by using their computer, but the speed is really very very very slow, is like a pentium to me, and I’m running out of patient and decide to quit by going out for some shooting while waiting for Annie to take her bath.
After we have done everything, we start our drive to husavik. Husavik is a nice small town, situated in the bay of Skjálfandafljót, population about 2500 it was a former fisher town with excellent natural harbor conditions. In Húsavík the first Icelandic whale watching tours started in the early 90’s. I was amazed by the traditional church and the town here, but too bad that we arrived after 5pm, most of the shops were closed, we just walk around this beautiful harbor and took some photos. We also saw some wheal watching arrived in the harbor at this hour, most of them go what they want to see, How I wish I can went for that too…..
I bought 2 cans of beer before we went back to our hostel, just 210 Kronor and 235 kronor each, so cheap with the big cans. After we had our dinner, we sit outside the garden to have some chips and beer with those breezing wind, although is cold, but we still enjoy it a lot, this is what we call “ICE”land, not like this afternoon, almost melting…..
I tried my luck to see the northern light at 3am in the morning, the sky is clear and stars are bright but no luck for the northern light.
