My partner and I have been photograph this Penang second bridge for almost a year, it was never an easy assignment on a bridge to be honest. Hazards are found everywhere, we must make sure taking care our own safety during the shoot. The purpose of China Harbour Engineering Co Ltd (CHEC) assign us is because base on the photos we have share in George Town Facebook page They hope we can shoot something extraordinary with the bridge, and not those building progress. So this is what I have created and hope to share with all the nation of Malaysia.
These photos are for display only. Those on display here available for licensing or purchase as print. Please contact me for further enquiries or to discuss your photographic needs if you are interested, you may contact my email jordan.lye@gmail.com
As part of The Macallan Masters of Photography campaign, Macallan has appointed Elliott Erwitt to take pictures of places, views and sceneries all around Scotland (the birth place of Macallan). Elliott's work will go on a world tour and Malaysian is given the privilege to exhibit his work on the 23rd of January at a media and guest event.
I feel deeply honored to have been invited to join this exhibition by shooting 15 photos of iconic places, things, sceneries around to show the beauty of Penang. I got less than a month to complete the 15 photos, the key of the shooting is all the photos must be taken with a Leica camera. because Leica is the main sponsor of the event, and everybody know Elliott Erwitt is a Leica man. I really hope to bring out the most of the penang and share it to the whole world. It was a fun assignment and I hope you do enjoy the photos
After a few attempts of my very first light painting, I'm looking forward for some improvement to make it nicer with ambient light and better composition. Sometime I'm think of shooting alone but going out alone in such a remote place I know is a bad idea. In photography safety always come first, photo come second. This mean I must always wait for my friends availability for the next outing in some new location.
To photograph milkyway in Penang Island is something new to me, I always admire those who shoot milkyway photos. I'm very curious that why they can get it so easily. I have tried for quite a while until this month I manage get my first milky way shot. Then the scenario like shift totally to my side.
I started to find interest in light painting because of the recent outing at night. I'm addicted to night photography in the penang island, mainly is because the sky which full of stars and milkyway, secondly is easier for me to go out since most of my family members are already asleep. I do not think of rushing back and can take my sweet time to compose and observe. The most challenging part is sometime you need to do it alone in the middle of the night, and feel a bit scary and uncomfortable. Anyway these are the photos I shoot in the first 2 nights. I hope I will go into it more. Enjoy!!!
Logos Hope was purchased in 2004. The ship's gross tonnage is three times that of Logos II, the ship it replaces. The extra space gives visitors the opportunity to choose from a wider range of activities and will allow for more crew members to serve on board. Logos Hopeis OM Ships International's largest ship. After going through a complete renovation to transform her from a ferry into the ship she is today, Logos Hope launched into active service in February 2009.
I'm from a tropical country, the beauty of it is we do not need some thick clothing to deal with cold temperatures and high winds, so most of the time I went shooting with a pair of slipper/sport shoe and some casual wear. So today I'm not going to mention any clothing accessories. I will share some essential equipment for landscape photography base on my shooting experience.
Today I got an email early in the morning to inform me that my photo finally hang up on the wall in Queensbay Mall foods court as their wallpaper, This is the first time my photo ever display in the public place and I'm feeling really excited to go and see how it looks like. so I decided to take a few shots as my memory. It still look very nice and in detail even they blow up that big just that the colour have to change to match the wall.
I was delight that my photo was finally publish in the 2011 Nikon International Calender, and I was surprise that they actually send me 10 copies of the Calendar from Nikon Japan. I wanted to give out those calenders for those who help me a lot in my career and photography. I wanted to specially thanks for their support.
I stop blogging a while since I back from Iceland. After 2 weeks + 3 days of break there are a lot of works for me until pile up to the ceiling. The first one was a wedding shot and it was the first one since I have shoot a funeral back in Feb, although I’m the second photographer but I’m glad that finally I break the curse, looking forward for more booking :) Today I’m not going to blog anything about wedding, I gave back the credit to Milan teh and I’m glad that he is finally a professional photographer. We didn’t see each other and shoot wedding more than a year….time flies………
Interior design is my first project and it happen to be my favorite one too. The design house – Galactic wanted to make a portfolio or their design and take part in a ID competition, I hope my shots are not too bad for them. I photograph it with a sigma 10-20 lens, I started to fall in love with this lens because it is very wide and I used it a lot in Iceland, I believe my composition is better than the Greece trip back in 2 years ago.
This is my second visit to this heritage site, last time was in 2007, it seems has some changes in the exhibition hall. I'm so lucky to have 2 frees entry pass, so I go along with Tommy Chai for this Khoo Kongsi shooting, The Khoo Kongsi (邱公司) is a large Chinese clanhouse with elaborate and highly ornamented architecture, a mark of the dominant presence of the Chinese in Penang, Malaysia
I got a surprise call from Nikon today, they told me that Nikon Japan is interested in one of my photo which I took part in 2008/2009 Nikon photo contest, they will consider it to be in their 2011 calender. If my photo was chosen I get pay USD 300 for my compensation, if not USD 150 also will be paid if my photo was drop by them. I'm feeling top of the world at the moment, is not about the money, is about my achievement. Look forward for that agreement!
A large section of the iconic rock formation the Island Archway, on Victoria's west coast, has succumbed to the elements and crumbled into the sea. Parks Victoria believes the fall occurred sometime between 4pm on Tuesday and 9am yesterday.
As its name suggests, the impressive rock formation on the Great Ocean Road resembled an archway rising 25 metres from the sea. All that remains following the collapse are the two rocks that previously supported the arch.
I was fortunate to see and capture this shot in 2007, there is totally a new landscape by now, and this shot will be history too.
“Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again.”-Henri Cartier Bresson-
This week I got some desire to shoot Heritage building in Penang, frankly speaking my oversea photos is actually more than my penang photos. I seldom go out to shoot is because I think that it is not safe, and also I live in penang, day in day out, everything look so normal. I want to collect our penang heritage photo is because penang is under UNESCO now. People around the world purposely come to take photos in Penang, what a shame that I take it for granted. This will be a good collection for future pre-wedding shot. I can propose my customers if I personally went to that place before. Penang City Hall
Once a year the waterfall in Botanical Garden will open for the public viewing in this international water Day. Many photographers waited this once in a year chance to take photos of this amazing waterfall. The main challenge is there won't be a fixed date on the event, we need to go to PBA office or call them up to confirm the date. mostly the date will be fall on the month of April Things turn out to be a little bit different now, after with my previous experience with the waterfall in Botanical Garden, this year I went in the evening. Due to the sun direction, you may get the uneven lighting, especially blow out on the top part of the waterfall. To be able to get a decent shot, you need to have a tripod, cable release, Nd filter and CPL filter. These are the thing I normally carry with me when I'm out to shoot a waterfall.
I can't really sleep for the whole night because of my excitement, so I started my journey a bit early with my mum and wife. When I arrived in the butterfly farm they hinted me I got a good prize but I can't believe myself I actually got 1st prize when they announced the result. I feel fortuned and finally I got payback for the hardwork I did for the past one year. I still remember my mum always scold me when I shoot macro in my garden and even though my wife was not supportive at all. This prize mean a lot to me and it remind me this proverbs " Don't limit a child to your own learning, for he was born in another time. "
