Khoo Kongsi
by admin on May.19, 2010, under Penang
This is my second visit to this heritage site, last time was in 2007, it seems has some changes in the exhibition hall. I’m so lucky to have 2 frees entry pass, so I go along with Tommy Chai for this Khoo Kongsi shooting,
The Khoo Kongsi (邱公司) is a large Chinese clanhouse with elaborate and highly ornamented architecture, a mark of the dominant presence of the Chinese in Penang, Malaysia. The famous Khoo Kongsi is the grandest clan temple in the country. It is also one of the city’s major historic attraction. The clan temple has retained its authentic historic setting, which includes an association building, a traditional theatre and the late 19th century rowhouses for clan members, all clustered around a granite-paved square. It is located in Cannon Square in the heart of the oldest part of the city of George Town, in the midst of narrow, winding lanes and quaint-looking pre-War houses exuding a palpable old world charm. Chew Jetty also known as Seh Chew Keo is one of the famous clan jetty among the other seven. This eight clan jetties (villages on stilts), which have existed since the 19th century, are found along Pengkalan Weld. They belong to the Koay, Ong, Lim, Chew, Tan, Yeoh and Lee clans. The eighth is a “mixed surname” jetty. Their ancestors, mostly fishermen and oyster gatherers, are from the Hokkien province in China. “Chew” is the famous last name which mean the entire long stretch of jetty are residence with “chew” as their surname. Penang Bridge Sunrise

The weather is really hot for these few months, global warming seem getting serious in every corner of the world. But I also appreciate for the current weather, is a good time for shooting sunrise photos because of the clear sky. This time I choose the location which I went 4 years ago, although it change a lot for the pass 4 years, but I still find that the foreground of this place is the best among those places I had been. I personally like the colour before the sunrise, but this golden moment only last for a very short while. I’m not able to get sun because of the cloud. I think I need to revisit again in another week.

Sunrise at Marina Bay Penang
by admin on Feb.20, 2010, under Penang, landscape
After spending almost 1 week at home during the Chinese New Year, finally I can go out and take some fresh air and back in action again. We go in a group of 5 to Marina bay for the sunrise shot, beside us there are also another group of photographers, look like this is a good location for sunrise shot. The “golden moment” is too short, and I just got a few shot which I feel is ok only. I will revisit this place next week.

After the shot, we visited Chiew Jetty, this is my first visit and I’m impressed by those houses that build above the sea. Now they are included in UNESCO. Beside that Kek Lok Si also one of the UNESCO in penang island. I wanted to take a full shot of this mega structure since few years ago, finally I can get a shot from my friend apartment. Hope you all like it.

Thaipusam in Penang 2010
by admin on Jan.30, 2010, under Penang
This was the second Thaipusam which I took part, but unfortunately I miss out the Kavadi session which already done on yesterday due to my work. So today we gonna try something new, this time we went to Lorong Kulit, this is the place where the devotees prepare them self by piercing the skin, tongue or cheeks with vel skewers. Although this is a Hindu festival, but we also can see some chinese, and america taking part in this festival.
The place is crowed with photographers around the world, some are from china, taiwan, australia etc. So is a challenging shooting for me, cause is very hard to get a good angle, I always got block by the other, make this shooting not really fun for me. We didn’t follow the devotees to Nattukottai Chettiar Temple along Jalan Waterfall because is quite exhausting to shoot for the whole morning!
I feel that this series is much better than last year Thaipusam, I’m looking forward for next year, hope can get a better one.

I was shooting an Annual dinner for an international company in Hard Rock Hotel, all of them make up like a punk rockers. I can’t display their photos here without their permission. What I can display is the photo I took with Serena C, she is one of my favorite DJ in Malaysia, so lucky to meet her in person. I enjoy shooting this event, but I need to improve more on my shooting style.

Bird Eyes – Penang Island
by admin on Dec.31, 2009, under Penang, landscape
This is my last shot of the year, I suppose to shoot interior design but I notice the view from the condo is really spectacular and I can’t resist to take a few shot of it. I stop taking photos as my own hobby lately due to my son and also heavy schedule from my works. I hope these photos will let you all know how beautiful our penang is. Please help ourselves to take care of this Island and environment, for the sake of this planet and our next generation. I love this island.
